Who Get’s The Kids When You’re Gone?

When minor children are involved there are serious decisions to be made. They can be made by you or the courts…we prefer to have you make them…well ahead of time so you can think through all the myriad of options and issues. Today isn’t too late to start thinking about and putting some plans in place to make sure your wishes and desires are carried out in case something happens to one or both of you.

To help guide you along in this thought process, we put together a handy “12 Question Checklist and Tips” for you to review in the privacy of your own home. This will help you better understand some of the primary options you have available and to think through them before you ever talk to an attorney so you can put something in place to protect your decisions legally.

ANSWER THE QUESTIONS…CREATE YOUR OWN DECISION

We wanted to help you think through this difficult decision, create some answers, and come up with your final selection or at least a short list of options. The process in the article is simple. Just follow these steps…

1. Start with a pad of paper in front of you before starting to read the article
2. As you go through each question, write down the number of the question and next to it the names and other information you would like to capture
3. Leave lots of space under each answer and to the right of each answer…you will be coming back to some of these questions and adding more information
4. Fill out all the information before you analyze any of your answers
5. When you are finished, put it aside for at least 3 – 5 days…then come back and go through it again
6. After your second version, then you are ready to see an attorney to help you qualify your answers and help discuss further what you should do next
